Intriguing RARA - A Journey to the land of peaceful environment and deep lake

Rara the name itself sounds heaven. Rara is not only the deepest but the biggest fresh water lake found in the Himalayas of Nepal; it is the main attraction of Rara national park situated in Mugu District in the far western region of Nepal and also known as the smallest national park of Nepal. This park is a protected area and was established in 1976 . Rara Lake is 5km long and 3km wide and it’s up to 167 meters deep. The altitude of this lake is 2990 meters from sea level. Rara lake is a must go destination to experience the real beauty of nature. Rara Lake is surrounded by glorious alpine forest. The color of the lake change time to time as it depends on the sky. The water of the lake is so clean and simulate the freshwater ecosystem. You can find three species of snow trout and vegetation around the edge of the lake. 49 species of migratory birds can be seen in lake during winter. The total area of the lake is estimated from 1800m to 4097m. The area of 198 km2 was declared as buffer zone in 2006. The authorities and the local people initiated community development activities and managed the resources in buffer zone.
The Major attraction of Rara are: Rara Lake, Chuchemara peak (4097m), Murma top (3726m) and Ruma Kandh (3645m), Snow leopard, Musk deer, Red Panda and Himalayan Monal, Himalayan flower in summer and snow fall in winte, Chhapru Mahadev and Rara Mahadev (Temple) and Local culture. You can visit Rara National Park from the month of September to November and March to June. The temperature drops down to below freezing point from the month of December to February and from the month of June to August occurs the rainfall.
